The American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers is a nonprofit mutual benefit corporation organized to provide education and certification for professionals engaged in electronic reporting, transcribing, and supportive employment roles, and to promote public awareness and acceptance of the electronic reporting industry. The AAERT monitors the CER (Certified Electronic Court Reporter), CET (Certified Electronic Court Transcriber) and CERT (Certified Electronic Court Reporter and Transcriber) appellations.

NVRA is the national professional association of verbatim court reporters. They offer 3 different certifications: CVR (Certified Verbatim Reporter), CM (Certificate of Merit) and RVR (Real-time Verbatim Reporter).

The United States Court Reporters Association is another association that focuses more specifically on Court Reporters who work in U.S. district courts. The USCRA is the governing body for the FCRR (Federal Certified Realtime Reporter) designation. For broader issues, they defer to the NCRA.
